Volunteer Opportunities

Do you have a passion for helping those in need? Would you like to make a difference in the lives of a refugee/immigrant family?

Volunteer with us! Most of the positions involve a weekly commitment. All of these volunteer opportunities will allow you to have direct contact with refugee/immigrant families in Nashville and see the difference you’re making in our clients’ lives.

We are seeking the following volunteers:

  • After-School Tutors (August - May) to help school-aged children in grades 7-12. In providing after-school tutoring to our clients, you will empower students and greatly enhance their comprehension levels in academically challenging content areas.
  • Citizenship Class Teachers to teach refugees/immigrants (with intermediate to advanced English skills) American civics, government, and the reading/writing portion of the citizenship test. Use your materials or ours to help someone realize the dream of becoming a U.S. Citizen!
  • One-on-One Tutor to tutor a refugee or immigrant in ESL or in preparing for the Citizenship Test.
  • Computer Teachers to teach beginning computer literacy skills (windows, MS Office, email) to refugees/immigrants in our computer lab. Give someone the gift of computer skills!
  • Mock Interviewer to conduct a practice interview for job seekers. Interviewing is a very important skill for newly arrived refugees and immigrants to practice because many have never experienced the formal interview process.
  • Grant Writing Assistant to conduct research, collect data, and assist in the varying needs of the grant writing process .
  • ESL Data Support to administer tests, record progress, and file ESL data and test scores in the database.
  • Youth Mentors to work with refugee/immigrant youth per the youth's needs, including encouraging them to explore college opportunities. Guide refugee/immigrant youth so that they can access a college education and achieve success!
  • Finally, we encourage People with Special Skills to contact us to see how your skills could be utilized to help our clients.
